The Mission provides volunteer opportunities for individuals, families and groups. No matter what your time, talent or size, we have a job suitable for you. We invite you to consider many of the tasks and welcome discussing what the best fit might be for you.

With the support of the community, the Mission can teach our clients how to survive, thrive and become self-sufficient.

FRONT DESK VOLUNTEERS

FRONT DESK VOLUNTEERS

The Front Desk volunteers are the face of the Mooresville Christian Mission to our Clients (new and existing), donors, and the general community.  It is our job to present a welcoming smile and a positive attitude that will make our guests feel at ease. This also helps to set the stage for the level of professionalism at the Mission and all the services that we provide.

Some of the many responsibilities of the Front Desk Volunteer are as follows:

  • Greet the people and inquire about their reason for visiting the Mission.
  • Have them sign in on our check in sheet so they can be seen in the order they arrived since we do not require appointments.
  • Have them complete an application and ensure they have the required documents needed.
  • Pull files for our existing Clients.
  • Make copies of various forms and documents.
  • We answer the many phone calls that come in inquiring about our service or needing to speak to someone at the Mission.
  • The Front Desk Volunteer is also the first point of contact for all of the various special projects throughout the year, such as the Turkey Trot, Christmas Angels, Easter Baskets, Food drives etc.

Our Front Desk Volunteers work in two shifts per day.  The morning shift is from 10:00a.m. to 1:00p.m. , and the afternoon shift is from 1:00p.m. to 4:00p.m.  Our Volunteers sign up to work anything from a regular day or two every week to one or two days per month.  We use an internet based sign up program called Sign Up Genius, which is a very easy way to track the schedule for the month.

Over all, the Front Desk Volunteer wears many hats.  We meet so many wonderful people from the community and feel blessed to be a part of an organization that can offer so much to the people in need in this community.  To volunteer for the front desk fill out the volunteer application then schedule your time with sign-up genius.

CHOICES COMMUNITY PANTRY

Volunteers are the lifeblood of any non-profit organization. They are the hands and heart of our mission. A happy and engaged volunteer is a passionate advocate. They server our clients and share our mission with friends, neighbors and colleagues.

Our goal is to make every volunteer experience fulfilling. The following are brief descriptions of each volunteer position needed to execute Client Choice:

Warehouse Assistants work closely with the Pantry Manager and Warehouse Volunteer Leader in the receiving, sorting, storage and rotation of inventory. A select few will be certified to use a forklift.

Sorters work closely with the Pantry Manager and Warehouse Volunteer Leader in the sorting of both perishable and non-perishable donations.

Stockers work closely with the Pantry Manager and Warehouse Volunteer Leader (depending upon which area they are scheduled) organizing and stocking surplus inventory and pantry shelves. Stocking happens inside and outside of distribution hours.

Food Rescue Volunteers work closely with the Pantry Manager regarding all aspects of pick-up and delivery of goods to the Pantry. In most cases, volunteers use their own vehicles. However, certified volunteers may use the Mission vehicle when necessary.

Client Registration Volunteers welcome clients, confirms program eligibility, register them for distribution and TEFAP (when eligible) and provide them with a Food Card for shopping. Volunteers are also responsible for ensuring all forms are completed and signed by each client.

Shopping Assistants work directly with clients while they shop. This person will engage the client in conversation while making sure they receive the correct amount specified for each family size.

Volunteers are the lifeblood of the Mooresville/ Lake Norman Christian Mission. Throughout the year, we host fund raising events and activities that bring people together to have fun all while making a difference in the lives of those in need in our community.

Some of the opportunities include Faces of Hope Gala, Turkey Trot, Cinderella Prom Project, Party with a Purpose as well as general fundraising support as needed.

The purpose of the Warehouse is to provide receiving services for non-cash donations to the Mission, and to provide storage facilities for incoming donations. Volunteers are the backbone of our warehouse and offer the behind the scenes infrastructure and services for the other key areas of the Mission, including:

  • Greet donors and assist donors with heavy loads
  • Receive donations and provide receipt to donor
  • Provide pick-up of mass quantities of donations
  • Provide moving equipment and services to transfer heavy loads to intended areas
  • Deliver foods to Food Pantry; refrigerate or freeze as necessary
  • Delivery clothing to staging area; and, after staging, into Free Store
  • Provide donation temporary storage and staging of donations
  • Provide refrigeration and freezer facilities for Food Pantry
  • Provide storage containers to facilitate storing/moving of donations
  • Provide clothes racks for hanging clothes in Free Store
  • Deliver requested furniture and household goods to parking lot for clients

How do I sign up to volunteer?

Simple email us at kdarland@roadrunner.com to get started. A boutique representative will contact you within a week to arrange your orientation visit.

The Give Back Boutique depends on volunteers for its every day operations. Our volunteers receive donations and consignments (intake), sort, price, tag, stock, merchandise the boutique as well as clean, greet, explain our mission to customers. They also answer telephones, respond to emails, keep records and provide personal shopping services.

The Give Back Boutique is a fun, helpful, stimulating environment to be in. Our volunteers love helping our customers find the perfect outfit for that special occasion, all the while knowing that their volunteer work is helping the Give Back Boutique earn money to provide much needed support for families in need in our community.

As a new volunteer, you will complete a volunteer application and a personal profile preview form, attend an orientation and train with other volunteer and team leaders. Shifts are available Tuesday-Saturday from 10am-2pm and from 2pm-6pm (10am-4pm on Saturday).

100% of net profits from Give Back Boutique are used to support the programs of the Christian Mission that are committed to reducing poverty in our community.

Make a child’s holiday wish come true this Christmas by participating in the Mission’s Christmas Angel Program. Here are simple ways you can help!

Adopt an Angel

  1. Complete the Adoption Form so that our staff knows whether to give you a girl or boy and what ages.
  2. Shop for your Angel. We will provide you with your Angel’s wish list item and clothing sizes.
  3. Return your unwrapped gifts to the Mission (266 North Broad Street in Mooresville) no later than TBD. Don’t forget to include the child’s name and family code on your gifts.

Host a Toy Drive

Organize a new toy drive to donate gifts to the Mission’s Toy Shop. Many families will apply after the deadline to turn in wishes, hoping they could provide for themselves. They are often those in most need. They will receive gifts from the Mission’s Toy Shop. We need toys suitable for ages infant to 18 years. Please click HERE for instructions on how to run a successful toy drive!

No time to shop? Our elves will be happy to do the shopping! Make a monetary donation to Mooresville Christian Mission by choosing “Toy Drive” in the donation type drop down menu. No gift is too small when it comes to making a child’s wish come true! These funds will be used to purchase gifts for the Mission’s Toy Shop.

You can donate to purchase a gift card for teens that are the hardest to buy for. Many times their younger siblings are easier to buy for and by purchasing a gift card, teens or their parents can shop for the gift of their choice.

RESOURCE STORE VOLUNTEERS

Mooresville/ Lake Norman Christian Mission depends on the generosity of volunteers in our fight to end poverty in our community. Our resource store cannot run without the commitment and hard work of our volunteers.

The Resource store provides much needed clothing and household items to families that cannot afford to purchase these items.

We’re always on the lookout for dynamic and friendly people to help provide great customer service and an outstanding experience in our resource store. Volunteers will help refill and organize our clothing racks and housewares shelves, assist to merchandise the shop, and work with staff on a wide variety of special projects. Each volunteer is trained to have knowledge of each area of the shop, and each person’s volunteer experience can be tailored to their personal skills and interests.
